The Tickler is dead, long live the Tickler!

Gold Hill, 9am.  Let's get this on bitches!  Felt that Cheese-O woulda been there if he could so dedicated the ride to him.  Also channeled some core Vermont cussin' haiku on the tough bits.

Started by climbing out of Gold Hill even slower than with Dash at the end of the 5 hour Tickler 5.  Whoah, easy boy...time to taper off, get lost, build a mud-hut in the woods, find the trail again, eat half the food I brought, squeal down the old Rock Shock test trail (which didn't look like it had been ridden since Paul sold out) and re-aggravate the skier's-thumb injury.  Sweet, first 30 minutes down.  Then hit the climb out of Rowena, which is always a sweet ride, nobody in sight, great trail, morning still cool...no problem.

Topped out at Sunshine Canyon (here's the old Sunshine School House) and into the devastation of the fire.  Torched, left right and center rolling S to Sunshine and it only got worse from there.

Climbed up to the Church Tr only to find Beelzebub's Armpit.  Church Trail, at least as I knew it is GONE, like erased along with every house site for the next couple miles.  Bushwhacking ensued straight down the fall line, dry straw on blasted black rocks, tree branches like charcoal drawing sticks.  Million $ houses now 2 bricks and a melted mailbox.  With views like these let's get that sucka rebuilt pronto!

Divine intervention rolled me onto the trail again 100 yards above the church of "Church Tr".  Seems to have helped the church too, note the crispy trunk about 6' from the wooden tinderbox of a 100 year old steeple.  Neighbors, not so lucky...

Down Four Mile to bang an up onto Logan Mill.  When was the last time you rode up Logan Mill higher than Santa Cruz?  Like 34 years ago?  Yeah, me too.  Let me reaquaint you, it goes up the whole way and it's hot as hell by now.  Also looked like hell with nary a pine in sight across the valley.  Got lost for the third time, but you can't go wrong if you keep climbing right? Hit Sugarloaf and blasted down to Betasso for a frustrating lap with 127 hikers over the 3 mile loop.  Fark, man.  I've been riding at Betasso since 1992 when there was no "there" there, usage eventually starts to get heavy, compromise is reached in which the mtbers give up 50% access on the weekends and hikers chip in by sacrificing...?  Nada. Zip. Bupkiss.  Honestly, get the fuck off the trail and hike ANY OTHER TRAIL in Boulder County on Sundays.

Seen about 3 bikers (and the aforementioned 272 ambling hikers) to this point so I rolled down the connector, hit every little bit of singletrack down the canyon and slalomed thru 497 bikers, dog walkers, fishermen, free-range toddlers, climbing parties, hippies and trail runners en route to the sweet, sweet nirvana of Eben G. Fine Park where this whole shebang began.  Took about 25 hours of adventuring, over, shit, 7 years and 6 outings.  Did we bite off more than we could chew?  NOPE, just took a little extra mastication to get that morsel to slide down the gullet. Mmmm, mmm good!  What's next?

Ever actually seen love-beams shoot out of someone's eyes?

Now you have, Happy Mother's Day to Rose from her #1 fan!

Oh yeah, we rode too

Steve's Loop, bitches! Best trail of the week, though Sovereign, Gemini Bridges, Monitor & Merrimac, Kane Creek-Jackson Hole-Amasa Back, Highline Lake Loop, Mary's-Horsetheif-Steve's-Lion's (x2), and Hurrah Pass were pretty sweet too. Maybe 20hrs of quality mountain biking for Highroller and Chainsaw. Got lost a couple times, of course, hauled ass up the baddest portage in town (up to Amasa Back from Jackson Hole), only crashed a couple times, no (NO) mechanicals...what? Sweet!

Fiesta Guadalajara Cabrones!

Tacos al Carbon

Bam! Carne Asada, Pollo Burrito y chile relleno

Ole, Mole!

What the shim sham?  The Velvet Hammer, doing what he does best (eat!), with Highroller, Chainsaw and Trout at Fiesta Guadalajara?  It's almost like a real bIKE cLUB April excursion to Fruita, complete with genuine FARVA quotes:

Highroller "What DOES Sue do anyways?"
Chainsaw "I don't know actually.  I tried talking to her about it one time but..."
Highroller "Sue is like the wind.  You don't talk to leaves, you can't talk to the wind, you just enjoy it... like a force of nature. Don't try to understand."

Trout "I love YOU most of all Momma!"
Highroller What about Poppa, do you love Poppa most of all too?"
Trout "No"
Highroller "How much do you love Poppa? This much (holds hands arms length apart)?"
Trout  "This much (fingers about 1" apart).

Highroller (wrestling with some kids). "Hey Finn, did you drop this dollar here?"
Finn "What? (coming closer)
Highroller "Is this your dollar?
Finn "What dollar?
Highroller "Ha gotcha you sucker! (Wrestles Finn into upside down sleeper hold)
Finn, later "Where's the dollar?"
Finn's Mom "There is no dollar honey"

Owen (kid) "Swing ME around now!
Highroller "Is there another word coming after that like..."
Trout "Please?"
Owen "Do it stinky donkey-butt!"

Trout (all day yesterday) "Cha cha cha...hi-ya! (followed by karate kick to Highroller's shins, if shins covered followed by punch to groin instead)

bIKE cLUB 2.0 Training/Survival Field Trip, Day One

Operative "Trout" planning evasive maneuvers should primary Moab routes be overrun.  Note plenty of cold "beery-water" on hand for constant rehydration.  Trout's finger is approximately 22 miles from actual location (so well within standard bIKE cLUB Navigational deviation)

If you don't remove the holder, no baby seals can get it stuck around their neck

"Is it the frank or the beans, son?"

S'mores 332 in session...prereq S'Mores 101, Campfire Basics 101, 102 and 201, S'mores 221 Advanced Thermodynamics, S'Mores 331 Differential Analyisis in Toasting

Just a quick spin down the coast

Not sure any Tickler rides could be scheduled here but I'm sure someone could figure something "enjoyable" here.

Freeze dried on Tickler 5

Sole moment of warmth during the 5 hours of Tickler 5, Gold Hill Merc. Yes, I'll take a latte and a piece of quiche please. Real men do eat quiche!

Was there snow? Of course not we would never make that mistake agai...oh. Yeah ok there was snow, making Aspen Tr about half unrideable. It was here that our fingers froze solid, not to return until after about 15 minutes was spent in front of the wood stove at Gold Hill

Sunny and beautiful all day but that menacing front sitting there on the Divide was blasting us in the face, In Your Face!, for the entire climb (3 hours). Freezing!

Almost ground to a standstill on Gold Hill Rd with jet stream right in the kisser before we could finally turn for home. Legs=worked

Thanks for leading the charge Dash! Consider yourself hardened up right proper, as if there was any doubt.

Can you say "Tickler 6!"
