Fun in the sun

Highroller and El Camaron got out in the sunshine finally for a little stroll downtown on a relaxing boys sleep-in Saturday...

Meanwhile Chainsaw opted for higher elevations and sampled Steamboat for the first time in great snow conditions. Miki, Scott Gurst, Scott Fliegelman, Jeff Black and Alicia rallied up to join her and much turning ensued...Chainsaw by the way is still crippled from the effort today. Good times all, and thanks to Jeff and the crew for an excellent salmon dinner!

Throttle it!

' course if we get snowmobiles it'll get ugly just like when we all had Subarus...

GOT TO GET ONE OF THESE!

Spent the day on Sunday in the bc area just off Vail Pass (the part of Vail that does NOT suck Sean & Matt). Actually were skiing the east side of the ridge from Camp Hale. Powder turns all day. Brats & beers in the parking lot afterwards. $6 admission at the gate was well worth it. If someone offers you a chance to do this, do not hesitate.

So here's the plan. Everyone takes their economic stimulus package check and we buy some sleds. Kinda like the ping-pong table.

Skiing...Alone!

Cheese-O made the trek to COSMIC Winter Wild race at Snowmass, minus his trusty companions from last year (their presence was sorely missed).  However, this year I brought a camera and shaved 1:14 off my time from last year.

1. The skin track up to high alpine.  The eventual women's tele winner is just in front of me.

2. The view just after the last uphill transition, looking back to Snowmass.

3. Starting the last skinning section.

4. Sweet scenery off the ridge to Buttermilk.

Skiing...together!

What's this? Highroller AND Chainsaw skiing, on the same day, at the same time? Incredible but true and we ripped it up all over Howelson during the best part of the day, fat flakes falling and sun poking thru from time to time. Lot of fun terrain and powder for such a small little hill!

Dumping in Steamboat

Bacon and Topshelf joined us in Steamboat to sample some of the fresh 8" that fell on the 24" on top of the 25" from the last three days...needless to say it was epic! Strolled 4 blocks over to Main St to catch the free shuttle, hopped the gondola up then a quad to the summit where the mountain looked like it'd been dipped in frosting, rime snow everywhere, couldn't even read the trail signs. Proceeded to rip up knee deep to waist deep powder for the next couple hours until Highroller at least had to admit that the last knee had been dropped. It would be nice to know how to alpine ski in these conditions, powder was over the shoulder when making turns sometimes. Snow just kept falling and the minimal visibility turned to zero and all retreated back to the Love Shack for wine and crab cakes...good times, good times. Guest room is now in full operation with a bed and everything so come on up!

Face shots & gluten free

Awesome time skiing Monarch & Wolf Creek. Drive back in good weather was 4.5 hours. Might have to head back there soon.

Be Careful At Wolf Creek!

As helicopters covered the surrounding areas, one would think you'd see different messages atop the peak at Wolf Creek.

Me Yellow Now. How About You?

I know it's a little old but since nobody brought a camera to Loveland yesterday, here's your chance to create your own Simpson's avitar. You don't have to log in to make one.

1st bc of 08

Broke trail solo for an hour today to get up into all the deep fresh Steamboat has gotten over the last week. Left right from the Moots factory and started climbing, lost the trail a few times, bushwacked and finally bogged down in thigh high snow amongst the pricker bushes...good stuff. Downhill was butter! Seeing my tracks from my office window? Priceless!

Gotta love the momentary motivation of a New Year's resolution!
