Firstly Highroller and Chainsaw ripped up Emerald in a TTT, finishing time? 1:03. Well I'm nothing if not consistent. Did stop for a layer adjustment and throttled back a few times so I think we'll be crackin' and hour soon. Crazy clear and crisp from the top looking over the upper Yampa Valley, Stagecoach and the Flattops and great conditions in the trees on the way down. Best part of the descent were the two wide open meadows on Emerald, both of which were glittering with hoar-frost and perfect powder on top of a slightly firmer layer (didn't really snow here this week) that allowed fast powder turns across the low angle meadows. Fun!
Then Trout got to show off his skills on the big Magic Carpet as Jen and Momma watched. He has really picked up some snow pow and turning techniques from his ski classes. Guess how many turns he can make in the length of this run? I don't know either 'cuz he straightlined it five times in a row, note leash! IF I had to guess I'd say we have two more days on this run before hitting it from the top. Take pity on me now as the top of Howelson is accessed by probably the steepest poma in the country...gonna be interesting.
