Das Alfords have returned from two weeks in the humidity of a MA summer and we are ready to ride. Highroller managed to break his wristwatch yet again(that makes it something like Highroller 23 wristwatches 0) AND leave the camera (with all vacation pix) on the car roof for the drive to Steamboat...doh! So that's like $500 down the tubes. Oh yeah, Trout busted my sunglasses. Make it $508. On the up side TS Alford learned to crawl like a muthatrucker, took to swimming like a seal and can feed himself cheesy poofs, Rose got to stuff herself silly with tasty sushi on her birthday (plus a massage!) and we ate a lot, and I mean a LOT of ice cream. Fortunately hired drones and sycophants have toiled ceaselessly on Partyapalooza prep during our absence and I'm confident all is in order and ready to rock and roll. In fact just as soon as I track down Drone 4 and get an update I'm sure we'll be ready to go. Aug 1-2-3 bring your bike, bring your swimsuit, leave your dignity at home...be there!

Actual pictures of Highroller riding!
Amazing! Well actually he's just standing there in this one talking to Manou from France, but still, bike clothes, a bike, looks promising!
Now we're talking! Coasting downhill...ripper!
Whoah, nice cornering! If you didn't know better the drop off on the right could be thousands of feet (actually about 200') and there could be people shooting lasers at him. What? I'm just saying as far as you know this could be wicked cool.

All this training is paying off big time as my weekend test on our local TT, Spring Creek proved. Chainsaw climbed it in 55 minutes flat while Highroller ripped off a stellar 1:02:22. Uurgh. Sad (not to be beaten by a girl, or your wife in this case as being married to a girl nicknamed Chainsaw has dulled the pain of those misogynistic impulses down to a pleasing hum) but better than a sharp stick in the eye. Did I mention I got a sharp stick to the eye? Well anyway better than nothing and as I approach my fighting weight for the first time post-Trout things can only get better! Braap brap!

NOw we're talking!
Cathy, Elizabeth, Adam, Rob
Chad, Frenchy!, Chainsaw and Jeff Black on Deer Trail
Summer's heating up and Footsoldiers are making impromptu forays all over the place; Durango, Hawaii, Crested Butte, Sourdough and Paonia (ha, it pays to read Dave's blog). Nice work team! Das Alford's will soak up one last weekend in SS before heading East for a well-deserved vacation in Alford, MA but we'll be back just in time to put beer on ice for Partyapalooza '08! Plan on being there, er, here that is Aug 1-2-3 and you can share in the sweet riding, hotsprings, alpine slide, birthday cake, cold cold beer, cinammon rolls, bmx jumps and other key ingredients of a properly prepared Partyapalooza. RSVP for deets if'n needed

4th of July - Louisville Style
bIKE cLUB members that had their Independance Day adventures limited to Boulder county managed to get out for a Sourdough trail trip. You would think that with all the travel on his bike, Pete wouldn't complain about all the rocks on this trail. You would think.
Lassie chickens out over the same log obstacle. It didn't prevent blood from being drawn eventually.
Yes ladies, he's single.
Evening events included corn hot off the grill, bratwurst right out of the oven due to running out of propane, and the first ever round of Corn hole at Wombat East. Here, Lassie exhibits fine Cornhole form derived from years in the midwest while being cheered on by Maeve, making a special guest appearance in her role as new refugee from the ski town lifestyle.
It's a simple game really.

4th in Durango
Contrary to KW's look of boredom, Durango offers some of the best mtb riding ever, in case you didn't know...Good times!
Dash and Hermosa River Trail
The Hermosa River Trail is about 20 miles of long, rolling, super skinny (often death defying) single track. A must before you die!! Unbelievable views and riding.
Durango!
KW's look of intense giddiness is only a small indication of the awesome riding we did over the 4th in Durango. Killer trail network essentially right off Main Street!
Crested Butte

Apache Couloir - July First!
Continuing an unintended streak of skiing every month this year, it was time to venture into the Indian Peaks. From Lake Isabelle, looking west.
Apache Couloir is the Y-shaped one in the center with its right hand reaching up to touch the upper snowfield. It looks doable, no?
Starting the ascent of the couloir...
...and at the summit of the snowfield (13,000 feet) and too tired to bother with the summit of Apache.
Despite downclimbing a hundred feet or so between the snowfield and the couloir proper, the skiing was excellent. August should be even better.
